30 weeks and nursery updates

We spent some time this weekend working on the nursery with my parents.  We still have a few more things to do.  We need to buy a bookcase and work on accessories.  The biggest accomplishment was putting up our tree decal.  It took a while, but we are happy with the results!

Rufus is testing out the glider.  I am a little concerned about how he is going to react once he realizes that the nursery is for the baby and not for him.  Every time I am in the nursery or sitting in the glider, he comes in and is very lovey.  He likes to sit on my lap while I read.  I don’t think a baby and Rufus will fit on my lap!

Warning: bare belly picture below!

My belly is really growing now!  I am definitely starting to feel more uncomfortable and I have a difficult time sleeping at night.  The baby is moving so much that it keeps me awake sometimes.  I have been feeling bulges in my belly the past few weeks that is either a baby head or butt.  A few times I have even been able to feel a whole baby body, it is crazy!  I have no idea what positions this baby is in, but I’m pretty sure he/she is just spinning in circles.

My 30 week appointment was uneventful.  Baby is measuring on track.

Our childbirth class this week was all about interventions – epidurals, inductions, c-sections, etc.  It was a little bit terrifying, but it was good to know what to expect!

28 weeks

Only 12 weeks to go!  I have officially started my every 2 week doctor appointments.  My last appointment went well.  Still measuring perfectly at 28 weeks.  And I passed my glucose test, so I’m glad I don’t have to do the 3 hour test.

Jason and I are really enjoying our childbirth classes.  The first 3 weeks focused on breathing and labor positions, as well as signs of labor.  Our instructor has been sharing lots of useful information with us.  In the next few weeks we will cover interventions and pain relief, newborn basics and breastfeeding.  It’s been nice to be at the hospital and become familar with it.

I had my first shower this past weekend hosted by my coworker Helen.  It was for me and my coworker Lisa, who is 8 weeks ahead of me.  We had such a great time!  We got lots of gifts and I am overwhelmed by the generosity of my coworkers!  Jason and I had a good time going through everything and putting it away in the nursery.  Thanks everyone!

26 weeks

Less than 100 days left and only 2 weeks left of 2nd trimester!  I am definitely starting to “feel” more pregnant now.  I have been having a more difficult time sleeping and finally had to invest in a snoogle body pillow.  It has really helped!  I’ve had a few more aches and pains, but overall I’m feeling good.

We are still slowly working on the nursery.  Our glider came in this past weekend and we moved furniture all around the nursery until we found an arrangement we like.  We still need to buy a bookcase and work on accessories.

Tomorrow night we start our 7 week childbirth series.  Jason is very excited about this (really, he is!).  We are looking forward to getting familar with the hospital and learning more about childbirth in general.  The series also includes an infant care class and a breastfeeding class.  It’s starting to feel real!

My diaper stash

I have been diligently buying my cloth diaper stash over the past few months as I found good sales and coupons.  I am now completely done buying!  I’m sure I will buy more after the baby comes, but I have a good start.

There are so many different kinds of cloth diapers, it can be completely overwhelming.  I did a lot of research for a long time before I decided what I wanted.  The real test will actually having a baby to try them out on, then we can decide for sure what works best for us.  We are starting out with a mix of newborn diapers to see what we like, then can buy more bigger diapers for later (a lot of diapers come as “one size” which usually start fitting around 12 lbs and should fit until potty training).

I could try to explain the differences between all the diapers, the costs savings, etc, but this website does a much better job than I could ever do.  If you have kids or are pregnant, I highly recommend doing some research.  It is amazing how much money you can save (and they are so cute!)!

And now, the pictures:

All of my newborn diapers are in the basket (prefolds, fitteds, covers, pockets and all-in-ones).  I have extra inserts in the first drawer.

One size pocket diapers for when the baby is bigger.

LOTS of prefolds.  I hear these also work great as burp cloths, changing pads and lots of other things, can be used to stuff pocket diapers and they are cheap, so I bought a bunch!

24 weeks – V day!

I am now 24 weeks, also known as V (viability) day, because the baby is now viable outside the womb.  Let’s hope baby decides to bake for another 16 weeks or so, but it is still a nice milestone!

I feel like I am starting to look really big.  And as you might be able to tell, my belly button is really sticking out!  I guess that’s what happens when you have an outie.  I am still feeling really good.  I can tell sleeping is going to get interesting the bigger I get.  I am still sleeping pretty well but I do wake up uncomfortable sometimes.

I had my 24 week appointment last week and everything was good.  The heart rate was 150 and my fundal height was 24.5 cm – so it appears that baby is growing properly.  My weight gain is also right on track.  In the next few weeks I will officially weigh more than Jason!  At my next appointment (28 weeks) I “get” to do my glucose tolerance test, then I start every 2 week appointments.

Baby is still moving a lot.  We are enjoying feeling him/her move around.

We are trying to narrow down our name list, but are having a very hard time with girl names.  There are a lot of names we can’t use because they don’t sound right with our last night.  We are taking suggestions!

We are still working on getting things crossed off our checklist.  The glider for the nursery should be here in a few weeks.  We have completed our registries at Target, Buy Buy Baby, and The Land of Nod.  We still need to pick out and order a tree decal for the nursery.  I have a few crafty projects I need to work on (making a crib skirt and mobile).

I think that is all the news for now!

Nursery progress

Here are a few pictures of the beginnings of the nursery.

The curtains I made.

The cats checking things out.  They have not been nearly as interested in the furniture as I thought they would be!

22 weeks

We have got a lot done in the past 2 weeks.  We registered at Buy Buy Baby, Target, and The Land of Nod (I wish we had one in Indy!).  Jason has been great at helping me make all the difficult decisions about baby gear, especially with the car seat and stroller.  This past weekend we had our nursery furniture delivered, put it together and hung up curtains.  It’s starting to look like a nursery!  We also ordered our glider.  We have a lot more decisions to make about nursery decorations – luckily we have plenty of time.

I think I finally got a bit of the 2nd trimester energy burst – but I think most of it is just early nesting.  I feel like I constantly need to be doing something and am not content sitting on the couch.  Yesterday I spent so much time cleaning my feet hurt at the end of the day!

Overall I’m feeling great.  The baby is kicking and moving like crazy.  Jason and I even got to witness seeing my stomach move last week.  I usually feel movement several times a day now, and notice the baby tends to be very active around 11:30 every night when I’m trying to fall asleep.  I hope this isn’t a bad sign!  Looking forward to what the next few weeks will bring!

20 weeks – half baked!

Half way done!  I can’t believe how fast it is going.  I have been feeling great.  I have started feeling consistent kicks and movement over the past week.  Jason has also been able to feel a few kicks.   Apparently I am really starting to look pregnant because yesterday at church I got lots of comments about how big I am now!

This weekend my parents came up to paint the nursery (well, Jason and my dad painted the nursery, my mom and I went shopping!).  The color looks great.  We ordered our nursery furniture and it will be delivered in 2 weeks.  Can’t wait to post more pictures as we put the nursery together!

Hiking in the smokies

Jason and I took a week long vacation to Cincinnati, Gatlinburg, Asheville, NC and Durham, NC last week.  We had such a great time.  We have a lot of pictures so I will make a few posts to show our favorites.

I would say this was the highlight of our trip – a 5 mile hike on the Alum Cave trail in the smoky mountains.  It was a a beautiful, not too hot day and the trail was beautiful.  We started the day by having a big breakfast at the Pancake Pantry, then we were on our way.

A map of our trail.

We hiked next to this creek most of the way up.

Stopping to enjoy the scenery (and take pictures).

There were several of these “bridges” we had to cross.

This was crazy.  Almost straight up stairs through a cut out of a rock.

Looking down through the stairs at the top.

Beautiful mountains.

Flowers growing out of the rock close to the top.

On our way back down.  I don’t know if you can tell, but I kind of feel like I might not make it at this point!  The way up was hard because it was so steep close to the top.  Luckily walking downhill is much easier!

Our views on the way back down.  This is why they are called the Smokies!

More to come!

20 week ultrasound!

Yesterday I had my 20 week ultrasound and everything was great!  Baby has a properly measuring brain and spine, 4 heart chambers, 2 kidneys, 1 bladder and a closed lip and nose.  The baby was breech (butt down) and had a foot in the way so the technician couldn’t even tell the sex of the baby!  I guess it was meant to be.  Baby weighed 11 ounces and we got to see him/her move a little bit, mainly opening and closing its mouth.  We got to look at the face for a while too, but it pretty much just looks like a skeleton right now.  We are thrilled to have a healthy baby and can’t wait to find out if it’s a boy or girl in another 20 weeks!

Open mouth and airway.

Face.
