Ethan – 2 weeks

Ethan has continued to be a little gentleman over the past week.  His favorite activities include eating and being held.  If he could eat and be held all the time he would always be happy!  We’ve had a tough time this week getting him to sleep at night.  He tends to only go 2 hours between feedings at night and then does not want to be put down, which results in very little sleep for me.  Jason has been giving him his last bottle of the night so I can go to bed early and get a good chunk of sleep.  Last night we tried swaddling him for the first time and it worked great!  He slept for 3.5 hours then another 3 hours.  I think I ended up getting around 8 hours of sleep (broken, but I’ll take it).  He also took a very long nap this morning so I was able to get a few things done around the house.  Hopefully he has gained enough weight that we can let him have these long stretches of sleep without having to feed him.  Last Thursday he was 6lbs 15oz.  I have been going to a breastfeeding support group at the hospital so I will get to weigh him again this week.  It was our first trip out of the house (just the two of us) last week, and it was nice to be able to talk to other new moms.

In other news, we started using our cloth diapers last week.  After a few user- error leaks, we seemed to get the hang of it.  But his cord stump hasn’t fallen off yet and the diaper covers were irritating it, so we switched back to disposables with the umbilical cord cutout for now.  Hopefully it will fall off soon!

Here are some pictures of our little man this week.

Learning how to control my head!

Ethan – 1 week

Ok so I’m a few days late – we’ve been busy!  Ethan has been such a great baby the past week.  Every day gets a little better.  He is doing all the right things – eating, sleeping, and making lots of dirty diapers.  He is even letting daddy sleep through the night – he only fusses a bit when he is ready to eat and usually goes right back to sleep without fussing.

We went home from the hospital on Wednesday and he weighed 6lbs 7oz.  Friday we went to his first doctor appointment and his weight was already up to 6lbs 13oz!  They like for babies to be back at their birth weight by 10-14 days, and he is already over his birth weight.  I am going to weigh him again tomorrow – I can’t wait to see how much more he is gained!  I feel like his little cheeks are already chunkier.  The past few days he has had more and more alert time during the day.  He usually has a fussy time once a day in the evening, but we are learning how to keep him happy.

Jason went back to work yesterday and Ethan and I survived our first tornado warning at home together!  Poor grammy was on her way up but had to stop when the storm got bad.  Ethan didn’t seem bothered by the storms!  After my mom got here I was able to leave the house for the first time by myself.  I missed him, but it was nice to get out!

Ethan had his newborn pictures taken on Friday – they are so great!  I will be posting some soon.

Here are some pictures of our precious 1 week old.

I haven’t been very good about taking pictures of the three of us – I need to be more intentional!

He loves playing with his tongue and “smacking his chops” as I like to say.

He’s working on tummy time – he seems to at least understand the idea of head control even if he can’t do it yet.

Big fan of the paci.

He loves his daddy (and daddy likes him just a little bit too!)

It’s a boy!!!

Ethan Daniel Mobley was born on October 18th at 9:21 am weighing 6lbs 11oz.  Sunday night my water broke and we headed to the hospital.  I still had not dilated any so I had two doses of Cytotec, a medication used to induce labor.  At 5am I was 4cm and at 7am I was 6-7cm.  Dr. Ball came in at 7 and said they would start pitocin and we would have a baby by lunch.  I decided to get the epidural then and by 8:15 I was ready to push – before they even started the pitocin.  Dr. Ball came back and he was born at 9:21!  She held him up so we could both see that he was a boy – we were so excited!  Waiting to find out was such an amazing surprise.  Jason was an amazing labor coach – my nurse told me I had to tell all my friends how great he was!

He is perfect and we are completely in love with him.  Picking his name was easy.  We have both loved the name Ethan and even wanted to use this name since before we were married.  Daniel is my dad’s first name as well as Jason’s middle name.

Here are a few pictures of our little guy.

39 weeks

We are down to the final week, and baby shows no signs of wanting to leave!  He/she is quite comfortable.  I guess this is what I get for being 11 days overdue myself.  My next appointment will be next Friday (1 day after my due date) when I will have a non-stress tests to make sure the baby is healthy.  If everything looks good, we will probably schedule an induction for around 41 weeks.  We are hoping I don’t have to be induced, but at least we know this baby is going to be here in less than two weeks!

I have been having a lot of (mostly painless) contractions, usually in the evening and at night.  I’ve also started to swell quite a bit in my feet and my face (though Jason says my face is not swollen – but I think he’s just being nice).  The unfortunate part of the feet swelling is that now all my shoes are too small and rub my feet and give me blisters.  I really think I should be able to wear yoga pants and flip flops to work from now on!

Jason and I are very ready and very excited to meet this baby.  We can’t wait to find out if it is a boy or a girl and see what he/she looks like.  I can’t wait to finally put the tiny onesies, hats and socks on our baby and use all of the fun baby gear we’ve accumulated over the past few months.  But until then, we are enjoying our time together, since we know things are about to change forever!

38 weeks

38 weeks and officially huge!  I think I am out of room!  My rotation of clothes is getting smaller as very few things fit over my belly these days.  Somehow though, my doctor said my fundals are shrinking (I am measuring smaller) because the baby is moving down.  Everything else looked good at this weeks appointment.  I’m still feeling good and sleeping well.  I’m done with evening shifts and weekends at work -  I will just work days now until baby comes.

I have been having more contractions on and off the past few days.  They are still very irregular but occasionally are a bit uncomfortable.  I think I’m starting to mentally prepare myself that we will have this baby within the next 3 weeks, as I will be induced at 41 weeks if the baby doesn’t come before then.  Today Jason and I went to Buy Buy Baby and got a few last things that we needed (and I must say I’m very pleased at how much money we saved with coupons!).  We are trying to pack some last minute items and get some work done around the house.  We have also been trying to enjoy the last few free days together just the two of us.  Last night we had a lovely dinner outside at the Cheesecake Factory (and we highly recommend the pecan pumpkin cheesecake!).  After dinner we went and looked at the adorable baby clothes at Baby Gap that we might actually get to buy soon!

I really don’t have any feeling about the gender of this baby and neither does Jason, but we are really looking forward to finding out.  If you want to make your official guess, click on the link below!

One last picture – this is what I “discovered” the other day.

Yep, that is Ginger hanging out in the stroller storage compartment!  She seemed quite pleased with herself that she found this little hideout.

Boy or girl – what do you think???

I thought it would be fun to make an official place for everyone to guess the gender, birthday, and weight of Baby Mobley.  Click on the link below to guess!

I am now officially 38 weeks so the baby could come at any time.  I will be induced if the baby doesn’t come by 41 weeks, so the latest date will likely be October 30th.  Good luck!

The nursery is ready!

Our nursery is ready to go – now all we need is our little pumpkin!  We are so happy with how our nursery turned out – it is perfect!

The closet is ready for LOTS  of clothes – I have a feeling Grammy will help fill it up.

Baby Mobley is ready for Butler Basketball to start!

36 weeks

I am now 36 weeks and seeing the doctor every week!  We can’t believe Baby Mobley will be here in the next few weeks.  Everything looked good at my doctors appointment this week.  Baby is still head down and measuring right on track.  I have started having some Braxton Hicks contractions over the past week – the doctor even noticed I was having one when she measured me.  I am still convinced that this baby is going to stay put for a while though.  If baby comes early I will be surprised!

My belly is still really growing!  I had to buy bigger maternity shirts because the ones I have are getting too short.  I think I also need to get some long sleeved shirts since it is getting cool outside.  I think Baby is starting to run out of space.  We can usually tell exactly where baby is laying and feel and see a lot of movements.  I am starting to get a little uncomfortable, especially when baby tries to stretch out.  Overall I still feel pretty good.  I am sleeping really well, but I have been very tired the past week or so.  I have been trying to rest as much as possible, but there are still several things on my to do list.

Jason and I are trying to get some final important things done.  This weekend we packed our hospital bags and put the finishing touches on the nursery.  We have been deep cleaning a few parts of the house and stocking the pantry with easy to cook meals.  We are still trying to finalize our baby name list.  We need to make another trip to Buy Buy Baby to buy a few more things.  I feel like we are running out of time!  I have to work next weekend, but then we will (hopefully) have a few weeks to relax and finish preparing.

We have all our baby gear put together and ready to go.  Jason installed the car seat and we got our stroller and put it together.  The cats of course have had to check out everything.  We have the pack n play set up in our room and the cats have been fighting over it at night.  I haven’t got many good pictures, but here is one of Ginger checking out the highchair.

Nursery pics coming soon!

34 weeks

Good news at this weeks appointment – baby is head down!  I still have no idea how the doctor can really tell, but she seemed pretty confident.  I do feel like the baby has “settled” into a comfortable position, as I normally feel the baby along the right side of my body, with legs/feet up top.  Jason and I are just happy that we don’t have to worry about a breech baby anymore.  We are enjoying watching and feeling our tiny baby moving around, especially now that we have a better idea of what it is we are feeling and seeing!  Everything else was good at the appointment.  Still measuring right on track at 34 cm and the heart rate was in the 140s and my blood pressure is still normal.

I am still feeling pretty good.  I have had a cold this week that has been very slowly progressing and doesn’t seem to want to go away, so that has been annoying.  My feet and hands have also started to swell a little bit.  Last Monday (Labor day) Jason and I spent most of the day cleaning the house and my feet were very swollen at the end of the day!  My rings are starting to get pretty tight too, so I have been just wearing my wedding band in fear I won’t be able to get them off.  I am still sleeping pretty well most nights.  About once a week or so I will have a bad night of sleep, but most nights I sleep all night and only get up once to go to the bathroom.  Some nights, however, it seems as though the cats are determined to wake me up every hour and I have a hard time falling back asleep.  Overall though, I feel like I can’t complain about my sleep!

The nursery is now complete and we are buying the last few things that we need.  I had my last shower this weekend so now we are planning on making a trip to Buy Buy Baby in the next few weeks to buy a few last things.  I am so amazed by the generosity of our friends and family.  We received so many wonderful gifts, there is hardly anything else that we need!

I can’t believe I only have 6 weeks left until my due date.  I will post more pics of the showers and nursery soon!

32 weeks and maternity pictures

I had my 32 week appointment yesterday and baby still looks good!  I am measuring 31.5 cm, so baby is growing right on track.  The doctor does think that the baby is breech, but wasn’t 100% sure.  She said babies tend to “get comfortable” around 32 weeks, but I’m pretty sure he/she is still spinning in circles.  I am amazed by how much movement is going on!  So if baby still appears to be breech at 36 weeks, I will have an ultrasound and go from there.  We are hoping baby Mobley will decide head down is comfortable!

We had maternity pictures taken this weekend, which can be found here.  Michelle will also be taking our newborn pictures when baby arrives.  She was so fun to work with and we love our pictures!
